A one-day workshop on "Virtual Reality Integrated Building Design" was successfully conducted by the Civil Engineering Department for 6th and 8th semester students on 10-03-2025 at Swami Bodhananda hall. The workshop aimed to introduce students to the growing importance and application of virtual reality (VR) in the field of civil engineering, particularly in building design and planning. The workshop commenced at 10 am with a welcome address by Ms. Sweja P. V., a 6th-semester student, who set the stage for the day's proceedings. Following this, Dr. Susan Abraham, Dean, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of such workshops in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands. Ms. B. Mary Sonia George, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, further emphasized the relevance of incorporating cutting-edge technologies like VR into the curriculum to enhance students' practical skills. The core session was led by Ms. Ashwini Sreekumar, a Project Manager from Techmaghi, a training company specializing in technology-driven education. She provided a comprehensive overview of the diverse software tools utilized by civil engineers in the industry. Ms. Sreekumar emphasized the necessity of students acquiring proficiency in these tools to remain competitive in the job market. A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the application of virtual reality in building planning and interior design. Ms. Ashwini Sreekumar demonstrated how VR technology can be leveraged to create immersive and interactive visualizations of building designs, enabling stakeholders to experience and evaluate spaces before physical construction. This included discussing how VR allows for better spatial understanding, improved client communication, and reduced design errors. The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and asking insightful questions. The workshop proved to be an enriching experience for the students, providing them with valuable insights into the practical applications of VR in civil engineering. The interactive nature of the session facilitated a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Nandhana V. V., a 6th-semester student, expressing gratitude to the resource person, faculty members, and organizers for their contributions. The workshop successfully achieved its objective of introducing students to the emerging trends in building design and the role of VR in shaping the future of civil engineering.
