Mechanical Engineering been one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines, is a profession which offers an array of career choices. Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2003 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students. The programme is approved by AICTE, New Delhi. Initially the four year B. Tech Degree programme in Mechanical Engineering was affiliated to Kannur University till the inception of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala in the year 2015. The department has attracted highly qualified and experienced personnel from various streams of Mechanical Engineering as its faculty. The departmental infrastructure fulfills the requirements of academics, supports research and learning skills on the latest technology in the new era industry. It gives priority in updating the Mechanical Engineering education and keeps abreast of technological innovations. The department is primarily driven by the dynamics of mechanical systems and sustainable development. The Department trusts in quality assurance and caters to the needs for training present day engineering professionals in the transference of knowledge between university and industry. It aims to produce graduates who are part of high-tech, elite professionals with special skills in Mechanical Engineering. The Department takes keen initiatives so that the students are able to attain excellence at par with the need of the hour in the spheres of construction engineering, design and manufacturing and the department has built an excellent reputation for its graduates who have been placed in national and multinational firms and public limited companies. The department actively contributes towards various activities every year by organizing Workshops, Technical Seminars and National Level Conferences, inculcating the soft skills of leadership, team spirit and comradeship.
A graduate in Mechanical Engineering can apply for the post of engineer in the State Government, Central Government and the public sector undertakings like Indian Railways, ISRO, DRDO, HAL and ONGC etc. Merchant Navy, Air force and Defence services are offering bright careers for the mechanical graduates. Hard working engineering graduate can appear for Indian Engineering Service and Civil Services Examination to acquire IAS, IPS and IFS Cadre. Mechanical engineers are no longer confined to the traditional industries of aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, but are also employed extensively in important emerging areas such as nuclear technology, robotics, biomedical technology and energy systems. Inter-disciplinary subjects thought as electives will make our students compete with other stream graduates during competitive exams. Furthermore, our students acquire valuable skills in creative thinking, critical analysis and develop feelings of camaraderie among the members of the group, which are qualities highly sought after in any engineering industry, consulting and management. The rapidly-evolving technologies and economies of today require graduates with an adaptable and broad skill set, which the Mechanical Engineering degree at SNGCET offers. So come join us and turn your ideas into reality for we are here to break the barriers.
