The difference between traditional programming and machine learning were also explained. After that there was a doubt clearance session. Then the second session was hands on exercise. Students were taught how to import libraries and practically do the analysis of data sets. That means to get the details from data sets and read the data, copy the data and find the null data and so on. It was an interesting session for students. The main benefit on attending this workshop was gain a strong foundation in AI and ML concepts and develop practical skills in applying AI and ML techniques.
The students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sree Narayana Guru College Engineering and Technology visited the UKTL 400 KV substation at Karintalam on January 6th. This is a gas insulated substation boasts unique features that set it apart from conventional substations. Notably, the substation occupies only one-tenth of the area required for a traditional substation, making it an exemplary model of efficient design. The 400 kV substation at Karindalam in Kasaragod district is a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the reliability and stability of power supply in northern Kerala. Developed by Udupi Kasargode Transmission Limited (UKTL), a subsidiary of Sterlite Power, this substation is part of a broader initiative to improve the transmission network between Karnataka and Kerala. The project includes a 115 km long 400 kV (quad) double circuit transmission line connecting Mangalore (Udupi Power Corporation Ltd) to Kasargode. This line is designed to alleviate congestion between the S1 (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka) and S2 (Tamil Nadu, Kerala) corridors, thereby ensuring a more stable power supply to the region. In addition to the transmission line, the project involves the establishment of a 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Kasargode. This substation will play a crucial role in stepping down the voltage from 400 kV to 220 kV, making it suitable for distribution to end-users. The Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) has also initiated downstream works to integrate this substation into the state's power grid. As part of the TransGrid 2.0 project, administrative sanction has been accorded for 220 kV downstream works of the 400 kV Substation at Karindalam. The visit provided the students with invaluable hands-on experience and insight into the workings of a cutting-edge substation. The exposure to innovative technologies and infrastructure will undoubtedly enhance their understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
