The session for the Youth Innovation Program (YIP) starts at 9:30 AM with a welcome speech by Ms. Thulasibai A, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). She extended a warm welcome to all attendees and introduced the chief guest, Ms. Athira CM, Kannur District Program Officer under Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), who was invited to explain the YIP and its registration process. Ms. Athira CM, the chief guest, delivered a comprehensive overview of the Youth Innovation Program (YIP), highlighting its objectives and the procedure for registration. She explained that YIP is an initiative under the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) designed to nurture innovation and creativity among young minds. The program aims to empower students and early-stage innovators to develop solutions to address real-world challenges. Ms. Athira emphasized the importance of innovation over invention, providing real-world examples to differentiate the two concepts. that YIP not only fosters innovation but also offers tangible rewards for selected innovations, including KTU points for innovations selected at the state level. The session was highly interactive, with students showing keen interest in the program. Several students raised queries regarding the YIP and its registration process, which were addressed by Ms. Athira. She clarified the benefits of the program and the subsequent steps involved in submitting and presenting innovations. The introduction of KTU points for innovations selected at the state level was particularly well-received by the students. Following the presentation, Ms. Athira explained the registration process in detail. Students completed their pre-registration formalities during the session. However, due to time constraints, she informed the remaining students that they could continue their registration after the session. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Thulasibai A, who thanked Ms. Athira for her insightful presentation and the students for their participation. She encouraged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by YIP. The session ended at 10:30 AM, marking the successful conclusion of the event.

This workshop aims to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), along with their practical applications in various domains. The sessions will cover key concepts, algorithms, and techniques in AI and ML, along with hands-on exercises and demonstrations using realworld datasets. The first session was introduction of AI and ML. Then types of learning that means supervised learning, unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning. These things were explained with real world examples. Then next real-world applications of AI and ML and concept of Deep learning were discussed. The difference between traditional programming and machine learning were also explained. After that there was a doubt clearance session. Then the second session was hands on exercise. Students were taught how to import libraries and practically do the analysis of data sets. That means to get the details from data sets and read the data, copy the data and find the null data and so on. It was an interesting session for students. The main benefit on attending this workshop was gain a strong foundation in AI and ML concepts and develop practical skills in applying AI and ML techniques.

The students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sree Narayana Guru College Engineering and Technology visited the UKTL 400 KV substation at Karintalam on January 6th. This is a  gas insulated substation boasts unique features that set it apart from conventional substations. Notably, the substation occupies only one-tenth of the area required for a traditional substation, making it an exemplary model of efficient design. The 400 kV substation at Karindalam in Kasaragod district is a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the reliability and stability of power supply in northern Kerala. Developed by Udupi Kasargode Transmission Limited (UKTL), a subsidiary of Sterlite Power, this substation is part of a broader initiative to improve the transmission network between Karnataka and Kerala. The project includes a 115 km long 400 kV (quad) double circuit transmission line connecting Mangalore (Udupi Power Corporation Ltd) to Kasargode. This line is designed to alleviate congestion between the S1 (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka) and S2 (Tamil Nadu, Kerala) corridors, thereby ensuring a more stable power supply to the region. In addition to the transmission line, the project involves the establishment of a 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Kasargode. This substation will play a crucial role in stepping down the voltage from 400 kV to 220 kV, making it suitable for distribution to end-users. The Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) has also initiated downstream works to integrate this substation into the state's power grid. As part of the TransGrid 2.0 project, administrative sanction has been accorded for 220 kV downstream works of the 400 kV Substation at Karindalam. The visit provided the students with invaluable hands-on experience and insight into the workings of a cutting-edge substation. The exposure to innovative technologies and infrastructure will undoubtedly enhance their understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
